Sony has finally unveiled it’s Streaming PlayStation Now service, dubbed PS Now but the big question for retro-gamer’s is still unanswered, where are those PS1 and PS2 titles? All Sony has confirmed thus far is PS Now will start by streaming PlayStation 3 titles to the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 with the PS Vita and more at a later date. Predictably Sony was showing off The Last of Us on a PS Vita at CES, makes sense, show off your new service with a flagship game.
Now Sony has always been coy about letting you play its back catalog of games. No doubt this has to do with the minefield of rights, patents, content restrictions, laws, etc. However many gamer’s, myself included, were hoping Sony’s purchase of Gaikai would bring about the perfect way to check out those old favorites from the past whenever and where-ever you wanted. So while this announcement that PS Now is coming and includes both rental and subscription tiers is a great I hope Sony really wow’s us on launch day with some retro games. We’ll know more nitty gritty details after the beta rolls at the end of January.
