Previously a little SNAFU happened where pushing out an update to Dying Light killed the chances of you making modifications to certain files in the game. Developer Techland said this was inadvertent and were trying to stop multiplayer cheating and they would remedy the situation. This all sounded like a big push by Dying Light PR to say “hey we’re sorry but it’s all for the best we might fix it”. Sadly in gaming this seems to be the exception where you hear these things from PR but nothing ever changes the fuel to the rage just kind of burns out and fans forget as they move on to new games.
However to their credit Techland is doing something about it and they’ve responded quickly with the image above and the press release below that mod tools are incoming to Dying Light. While waiting for the mod tools to be released Techland wants you to give them ideas for mods you want to create. I would guess this should help them focus on how robus to make their utilities.
The really exciting time will be when the flood gates actually open and modders get their first crack at creating new customizations but I hope they build in some kind of story editor because that has a chance to really open up the game especially if you can build co-op specific scenarios. There’s no hard date yet so we’ll just have to wait and see how long until we go from promise to reality but they seem to be working quickly on this which is a very good sign.

Modders were a massive part of our gaming community since Call of Juarez 2 and Dead Island – and we wish to continue that with Dying Light. This invitation is only the first stage of our cooperation with the gaming community. After the modding tools are released, we plan to actively support the coolest mods created by players.
We want to give creative freedom to the players to help keep Dying Light fresh and interesting even many years after their release. We want to thank players for the support they have shown us and are looking forward to their ideas whereDying Light can go from here.
