Capcom – PSN DRM Does Not Help Nor Hinder Them

I’ll tell you something, the Capcom logo start sound is forever burned in my memory. Whatever makes that sound I must find it, play and usually beat it in one sitting. Many a days were spent during the 80’s and 90’s in the arcade pumping quarters into whenever new Capcom arcade cabinet had just been dropped and was setup to full blast with that attract sound working to myself and others. So it is sad to hear that after all those quarters I’ve giving, and cartridges, cd’s, etc, to Capcom they might still be willing to use Always On DRM on their PSN titles and that adding it to Final Fight: Double Impact was an experiment. I wanted to buy Final Fight: Double Impact but didn’t because I had heard of the DRM and I’m glad as when my internet was out for 2 weeks and I was jonesing for some beat’em ups I had a copy of the Ultimate Genesis Collection on my PS3 to keep me happy.

We don’t like Always On DRM as it is, the internet isn’t some always there 24/7/365 utility like some companies belive it is, but when it’s a cheap PSN title we really hate it as those tend to be the games we gravitate towards for some reason when the internet goes dark. Maybe because it’s like stepping back to our youth when there was no internet and multiplayer was a personal affair. Maybe because it finally gives us a chance to play those games we said we would get to one day but were to busy upping our kill to death ratio. Or maybe it’s because we’re old stick in the mud’s who remember the good old days of 1.2 MB floppies and 33MHz processors through rose colored glasses. Whatever the case we hope Capcom reconsiders it’s experiment and see’s that while maybe it didn’t help nor hinder them it sure made them lose at least one sale of Final Fight: Double Impact and whatever else they might add that DRM to from this writer.
