Who knew I would be breaking out the NEOGEO tag for a game released in 2013 but here we are! Crouching Pony Hidden Dragon is a new, independantly released, run n’ gun NEOGEO game released in a hybrid format for both the MVS home console and the AES arcade cabinet. There’s a developer video down below but I think this sums up where these guys heads are at What could be better, in terms of establishing our reputation and our legitimacy, than to release our game on the best console of all time? You hear that fanboys, best console of all time I sure hope they brought their asbestos suits.
Inspired by games such as Shock Troopers and Ninja Commando the gameplay video we see for the game looks great. If you told me this was released back in the Console Wars of 19XX I would have believed you. Everything in the background is moving, the colors all pop off the screen in that 32-bit/64-bit awesomeness that was video games back then and the gameplay looks solid, very important. The team at Le Cortex is only making 250 of these carts but I’m hoping there’s a digital release later at some point as it would be nice to play. be sure to head past the jump and check out both the developer video and the gameplay video for this awesome looking throwback.

The Paris video game studio Le Cortex is launching its very first independent game for Neo-Geo in December 2013: Crouching Pony Hidden Dragon.
Crouching Pony Hidden Dragon is an innovative shoot’em up for the SNK console. In this overhead multidirectional run and gun, inspired by Shock Troopers and Ninja Commando, the player moves through a mature and extremely strange universe operating the fiery duo: Ninja Pony and Biki Ninja.
Crouching Pony Hidden Dragon is to be released in a limited edition of only 250 copies. The game boasts an original production process with new hybrid AES/MVS cartridges (no recycling of older media).
