The aptly named SteamBoy Machine Team is teasing the SteamBoy, a handheld device to let you play your Steam games on the go. The SteamBoy is set to run SteamOS which would give it the ability to run native Linux games as well as stream games from your beefier gaming PC while around your house, kind of like the NVIDIA Shield.
I’m not going to lie, I’ve been wishing someone would make a SteamOS handheld device ever since I heard SteamOS was a thing. I mean we had the GP2X, Dingoo A320, Pandora, Rasberry Pi, NVIDIA Shield and of course Android Tablets and Phones are getting more powerful every 6 months so why can’t we have SteamOS running in the palm of our hands?
The SteamBoy does all of those one better by incorporating features from the official SteamOS Controller. Love it or hate it those circle touchpads might be the future but we haven’t all warmed up to them yet. I would love to see another model with analog sticks become available. The SteamBoy also has 8 face buttons, 4 trigger buttons and 2 rear buttons giving you a lot of options when it comes to control schemes. No price, no release date but SteamBoy Machine Team are looking to release more information soon. I really hope this turns out great and we don’t end up with the Phantom so I’m going to stay cautiously optimistic until it is available and we get some reviews floating around.
