Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame looks like two things that should never fit, a very Giermo Del Toror insprired fantasy land and hard rock ballads. It could be a case study as to why you should always keep an open mind going into something new.
The visuals looks dreamlike somewhere between a nightmare wolrd and a fantasy land that you never want to leave. Whatever those creatures are look like a cross between a serpant, an owl, Falkor and Lady Rainicorn. But the songs they are belting out with their little mouths are definitely Rock Opera.
We’ll get to know more once Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame drops for PC and Mac in January 2015. I’m really curious how they will build this floating city world. The featured performers are pretty big names from multiple bands Epica’s Simone Simons, Cradle of Filth’s Dani Filth, Dragonforce’s Marc Hudson, Sonata Arctica’s Tony Kakko and Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz. Of course the soundtrack is going to be released alongside the game and if it keeps up the intensity from the trailer it’s going to be in heavy rotation on many playlists early next year.

PRESS RELEASE
What began as a graduation assignment in September 2013, has become an ambitious, full-fledged and multidisciplinary art project. Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame is the world’s first rock opera videogame which strives to combine music, gaming and theatre. In the game – a ‘puzzle platformer/adventure experience game’ – music plays an important role. The story is brought to you in the form of a rock opera. An all-star rock and metal cast steps into the shoes of the game’s characters and brings the story through song. This cast features:
Simone Simons (Epica)
Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth)
Marc Hudson (Dragonforce)
Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica)
Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy)
The orchestral portion of the score is performed by the Metropole Orkest (the world’s biggest professional pop and jazz orchestra) and band members of Epica, Textures and Within Temptation.
Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame has several storylines. Karmaflow sets itself out from other contemporary titles in multiple ways, with the game’s massive emphasis on music being the most obvious. While other video games may treat sound and music design as a nice additional feature, in Karmaflow, music is everything to the game’s experience. The persistent rock opera singing guides the players on an epic journey that changes depending on their choices, which in turn affects the tone of the music heard.
Making choices is very important for the course of the game and the music, which – just like in the real world – revolves around balance and opposites like men versus nature, opposite religions, rich versus poor, et cetera.
The game will be released early 2015, for PC and MAC.
Watch the trailer and find more information on our Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame website.
The rock opera will also be released as an album, in October 2014, and at the end of this year the concert series Karmaflow in Concert starts. Early 2015 there will be a big finale (coinciding with the release of the game), in the form of two shows in the Dutch city ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Karmaflow in Concert: The Rock Opera will feature part of the original cast from the game and the Metropole Orkest live on stage!
