Overkill Software ran a new promotion to get 1.5 Million members in the official Payday 2 Group on Steam by Oct 18th 2014. As crooks and thieves filled the ranks Overkill promised new loot for each important milestone to the all important 1.5 Million member number.
Some of the free Payday 2 goodies Overkill is handing out thanks to this recruitment effort are Brass Knuckles, a golden AK, Money, Weapon Attachments, Masks, Old Hoxton, a New Heist and more. The big news was at 1,050,000 members, the original Payday: The Heist will be FREE to download on October 16th 2014 on Steam. If you don’t already own the original Payday all you need to do is join the group and remember to jump back on Steam on the 16th of Oct to snag the game. Like past free games once it’s in your Steam Library it’s yours for good.
I know the Payday community seems really split, some people love all the changes Overkill has made, others feel the small majority of uber-hardcore players are pushing Overkill to make the game continue to scale to them while leaving other more casual players behind. I think it’s somewhere in the middle Overkill seem like they have good intentions a lot of times but then seem to make tweaks out of nowhere that will only benefit the top echelon players who crave more challenge and harm new players in the process.
Whatever your feelings are you can still get a free game thanks to the 1.5 Million member strong and counting Payday 2 Community Group on Steam. While not the best games it’s still a lot of fun with friends to play both Payday: The Heist and Payday 2. Just have fun with it and don’t get too caught up on min/maxing your builds unless you have a bunch of time to grind.
