Feel The Rush With Part 1 Of This Distance (PC) Mini-Documentary

I love me some behind the scenes action, I don’t care if it’s movies, music or video games. Peering behind the curtain still gets me excited every damn time and Refract Studios is giving you just that with part 1 of this mini-documentary they put together for their latest game Distance.

Right from the get go I love these guys, they have a Distance sitdown style arcade cabinet in the office, which means they are serious about arcade style racing. There’s also an original PlayStation and NES tucked neatly in the corner of the room, you have to know your roots if you’re going to move forward. Finally there’s footage of the build up from their student game which eventually turned into megahit Nitronic Rush. See how the team built on early prototypes to come up with what Distance is today by checking out the video above.

Nitronic Rush is a futuristic arcade racing student game developed by members of Refract while attending DigiPen Institute of Technology. Three years ago it was released for free on PC on 11/11/11, and since then it’s been downloaded over 3 million times and earned awards in the 2012 Indie Game Challenge, 2011 Inside Gaming Awards, and others.

Distance is the spiritual successor to Nitronic Rush. It’s a survival racing game where the action of arcade racing is fused with the exploration of a mysterious world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic city. The private beta released to Kickstarter backers currently features a short single player campaign, as well as additional split-screen and online multiplayer modes such as Sprint, Reverse Tag, Stunt, and Soccer. It also includes a powerful level editor which is connected to Steam Workshop.

Distance will be available on Steam Early Access this fall (i.e. early December). You can pre-order the public beta (Early Access) release of Distance and get instant access to behind-the-scenes updates! Learn more at:http://survivethedistance.com
