I’m liking this take to the seas thing we have going in PC gaming, we had Subnautica, then Depth and now Narcosis which looks scary as all hell. What could be scarier than stuck underwater in a submersible, surrounded by the blackness of the ocean while you are slowly going insane? Is any of this real? You are diver in the game so I would guess the water would have to be real but is the danger of it all just in your mind? What’s also pretty cool is the inner monologue that you hear from the character you’re playing during the game, if done right I think this can really add to the tension.
Narcosis is no slouch in the graphics department either, just looking at the trailer in motion makes me think of those specials James Cameron did when he went looking for the real Titanic at the bottom of the sea. Everything has that weird light effect you get when you’re shining a light under water, stuff up close is pretty well lite but visibility drops off sharply and some crazy shit could be coming right at you at any moment and there’s no way you would know until the last second. What’s going to be even crazier is when you slap on your Oculus Rift and then there really will be no escape from the insanity in Narcosis. I can’t wait to see what pops up on YouTube once this game gets a proper full release.
