This next bit of news has to have cord cutters everywhere wide eyed like a Fruity Pebble’s fueled kid on Christmas, Sling TV is coming to Xbox One. Finally the reality of paying for TV over the internet is becoming a reality. The channels included are some of the big names I hear all the time from people who find flaws in Hulu Plus, we’re talking ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, The Food Network, HGTV, Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel. Someone always brings up at least one of those station when you ask why do you still pay for cable tv.
So what’s that going to cost, Sling TV says it will come in at just $20 a month with no commitment, contract, credit check or hidden fees. They say no hardware installation but you do need an Xbox One but there’s no extra bit you’ll need to buy after that, except, you know, having internet service.
More good news, Xbox Live members will get a free extended trial at launch for one month, just be sure to sign up for the service. I’m guessing the internet is going to give it the hug of death on day one so it will be interesting to see how the service holds up as customers rush in. I give it a 60/40 split on the WWE Network US launch and the WWE Network EU launch scale of streaming doom. There’s no word on what happens when Sling TV adds more stations but it’s nice to see someone try and get true Internet TV off the ground.
