Freaking Meatbags looks to add a bit of DNA splicing to the tried and true tower defense formula with a dash of base building for good measure. Sounds pretty awesome to me, I mean who doesn’t want to be a mad scientist building freaky commandos to do your bidding? The gameplay seems like it is deceptively simple, land on a planet, build your base, splice some DNA, gather resources, fend off robots, rinse and repeat.
Freaking Meatbags claim to fame is the DNA splicing feature where you can upgrade the lazy fleshy ones with awesomeness like laser eyes or exploding on contact and you can also equip them with futuristic items like rocket launchers, jetpacks and I shit you not, hoverboards! Can you imaging an elite squad of laser eye firing troops on hoverboards, no, well damn it Freaking Meatbags did and it’s a reality, PEW PEW BITCHES!
Developer Wild Factor say they have revamped the DNA system to allow hundreds of possible alien/human DNA combos, who the hell knows what kind of sick Freaking Meatbags you’ll create with that kind of number. You want more power, stick your meatbag humans inside towers and power up your buildings to repel those damn robot invaders. There’s even a hidden zombie planet for people who still love zombies like me! Freaking Meatbags is currently on Steam for $9.99 / €9.59 / £7.99.
***As of this writing it still shows up as Early Access but the Press Release we have says it’s coming to Steam proper today so I’m guessing it’s just a timing thing before Steam removes the Early Access banner.
