Need for Speed Trailer Only Needs 35 Seconds Of Your Attention

Good old Need For Speed has been kicking the tires of arcade racing enthusiasts for a long time. Taking a queue from everyone else in the gaming world we are back at just Need for Speed, no Underground, no Rush, no Pursuits and certainly no World. So we are rebooting a car game, which I don’t really see why that’s necessary but hey it’s not my money. Here’s the buzz words from the press release, open world, deep customisation, urban car culture and an immersive narrative. You won’t even have to wait long as EA and developer Ghost Games is shooting for a Autumn 2015 release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The thing about all the buzz words they are using for this new Need for Speed has me worried. Open world in a car game never really grabbed me unless they are finally going to overlay the GPS  route on the road because honestly I can’t memorize the damn map or street names. Urban car culture screams Fast and Furious car rave scenes. If there’s the ability to have a giant garage full of real people with all their tricked out rides that you can browse and maybe get blueprints from then fine but other than that, what the hell does this even mean. Finally deep car customization better mean just that, if I want a Toyota Corolla  with a giant spoiler, neons, lower with a body kit you better let me. I like my racing more Forza Horizon and less Forza proper. There’s also a narrative which normally you can take or leave on these kinds of games but hopefully it will be fun, racing friends online with your souped up beater is where it’s at. EA was also nice enough to send over some screenshots to accompany the trailer and as usually they look amazing but always wait for real game footage before we turn this into another Watch Dogs / The Witcher 3 fiasco.
