Like any mecca for gamers should be E3 2015 was a media blitz with trailers, screenshots and announcements aplenty. When I was younger I seem to remember reading about the spoils of E3 and thinking to myself “when am I going to be able to play these games“? However every year it seems more and more games are shown off or announced at E3 with a release coming before the end of that year. So with this year’s E3 out of the way and 6 months still left to fill with video games here’s my Top 10 games I can’t wait to play before the end of the year.
June 25th 2015 – Yoshi’s Wooly World (Wii U)
It’s Yoshi in a platformer and he’s made of yarn, if this doesn’t melt your heart you might want to get a blowtorch. Unfortunately the bundle with the actual Yarn Yoshi seems to be sold out everywhere and we want it BAD!
Sept. 1st 2015 – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
(PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XO)
What should be the final chapter in the Solid Snake series there’s been some brouhaha over the exile of Hideo Kojima from Konami, Konami adding in micro-transactions to the game and a bunch of other legitimate and not so legitimate ranting and raving. Bottom line I want to play Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain because I want one last cigarette with Hideo Kojima while he spins his epic yarn of mega privatized military action before I put this butt out for good.
Sept. 11th 2015 – Super Mario Maker (Wii U)
Nintendo comes around with another solid looking title I’m sure a lot of gamers both new and old are looking forward to Super Mario Maker, previously titled Mario Maker. I can remember sitting at home and making video game levels on graph paper with enemy placements, wacky power-ups the whole deal. Here we are 30 years later and guess what, that’s exactly how Shigeru Miyamoto did it, just think if all of our mom’s knew they had little genius video game designers in the house!
Sept. 15th 2015 – Mighty No. 9
(PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XO, Wii U, 3DS, Vita)
Call it a homage, call it a throwback, call it inspired but don’t you dare call it a rip off! Keiji Inafune is making the game he’s always wanted to make and it’s thanks to all those Kickstarter backers that rose close to $4 Million dollars to make the closest thing to a Mega Man game we’re going to get in 2015. While my brain is ready I don’t know if my body is ready for what Mighty No. 9 is likely to do to my thumbs but it’s going to be so worth it.
Sept. 22nd 2015 – SOMA (PC, PS4)
I have no idea what’s in store for gamers once they fire up Frictional Games SOMA and that’s a blessing. Of course it’s going to cause Depends stock to skyrocket but with its dark atmosphere and its mix of sci-fi and horror I want to take this ride no matter what it does to my psyche. I’ve purposely stayed in the dark because I want to be as surprised as possible but if the weird live action trailers are anything to go by I think this game could be mind meltingly awesome.
Oct. 10th 2015 – Rock Band 4 (PS4, XO)
Prepare your home for more plastic instruments or dust off the old ones you already have, Rock Band is BACK! Harmonix is ready to inject more fun into your weekend as the ultimate hanging out with a bunch of friends at home game is back with Rock Band 4. They’re touting 1500 songs so all you crazy people who bought all that Rock Band 3 DLC rejoice; we’re coming to your house! There’s a new freestyle mode that looks pretty interesting so you don’t necessarily need to sing the right words, just stay on key, and your guitar/drum solos will now sound even more epic. It’s time to get the band back together and rock out!
Oct. 13th 2015 – Rainbow Six: Siege (PC, PS4, XO)
I know what you’re thinking, “how in the hell is Ubisoft going to make us climb towers to unlock shit in Rainbow Six: Siege“? My best guess is that they’re not and if anything maybe we can blow up those same towers that are getting annoying as hell. This now smaller close quarters combat style gameplay and the ability to blow holes in almost anything has me most pumped. Yeah Battlefield is great with its big grandiose air, land and sea battles but sometimes I want to scale it back and go squad vs squad. I just hope we’re given a nice variety of maps to play on because without a nice rotation this could fall into Titanfall territory.
Nov. 3rd 2015 – Need for Speed (PC, PS4, XO)
There’s FMV in Need for Speed!!! I always love a deliciously so good it’s bad FMV game, growing up with Night Trap, Burn Cycle, The Daedalus Encounter and The 7th Guest molds your brain a certain way. So yes there’s FMV for me but what about the driving, well lots of wet roads and neon in the trailer have me hope these racers only put the pedal to the metal from dusk till dawn. If the visuals in the trailer are to be believed they look super slick and the social media overlay adds another level of cheese that’s just perfect.
Nov. 17th 2015 – Star Wars: Battlefront (PC, PS4, XO)
I don’t have an affinity for the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise like some gamers do but an FPS set in the Star Wars universe, SIGN ME UP! EA knows Star Wars fans well and went in right for the kill by teasing a Hoth level during the Star Wars: Battlefront reveal last year. Finally this E3 2015 trailer comes along and it is exactly what we’ve been living out in our back yard with our action figures for 35 years. I just hope Star Wars: Battlefront doesn’t launch with all those glitches and bugs DICE likes to throw in for free. I’m not sure if they’re trying to outdo Bethesda but they’re getting close.
Dec. 1st 2015 – Just Cause 3 (PC, PS4, XO)
It’s time to blow shit up! Just Cause 3 is coming right at the end of the year so you can kick back during the holiday break and unwind by taking out an evil general. Avalanche Studios has decided to the off the rails epicness of Just Cause 2 and add another truck ton of C4, mix in a wing suit and let you just do what you love to do as Rico Rodriguez. I can’t wait to see the YouTube videos people start posting of their insane stunts once Just Cause 3 drops and I can only hope they all try to outdo each other again and again.
Dec. 8th 2015 – Hitman (PC, PS4, XO)
Sneaking in right before the end of the year comes Hitman, I know a clean slate for Need for Speed and Hitman in the same year, who would have thought? Instead of just taking on built-in contracts in the single player game, for this Hitman Io-Interactive is going to be pushing out new content for the community to take on. Where most developers and publishers are happy to rush out a Season Pass Hitman is going to see content updates for a year that are included with your purchase of the base game, we think that’s pretty cool of them. We always love donning the black suit and red tie combo as Agent 47 and can’t wait to try out the multiple unique solutions to taking down our contracts one by one later this year.
Well that’s all for my list of video games I’m really anticipating for the rest of this year. I’m sure there’s some I missed and I know there’s got to be choices you agree with so head down below and let me know in the comments section below.
