Back in 1995 is an interesting game and it’s not going to be another glossy retro love letter. Where as Retro City Rampage seemed to revel in the ability to push the technical limits of old hardware for a better game, Back in 1995 says here are those games how they were, bad graphics, bad controls, bad camera angles and all, now lets make a horror game with that in mind. The textures are low res, you’re going to have to fight the camera as much as the monsters, there is a ton of aliasing and more but maybe that’s the best part. With the wave of sprite based games flooding the market Back in 1995 will surely stand out with it’s late 90’s polygon aesthetic but giving it all the problems those games had could turn this into an effective survival horror game if done right. That’s really what I’m hoping for, a lot of the horror in Resident Evil wasn’t just the atmosphere it was the atmosphere plus those infuriating tank controls which we’re told Back in 1995 does have, awesome! I don’t see any mention of a release date but Back in 1995 is set to come to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS Vita and the New 3DS. Also you have to love the artist rendition of the Back in 1995 world at the top of their webpage, that kind of imagery is what filled in the gaps when the games looked this bad in the 90’s too.
