Your face is the turret, defend your face, that’s pretty much all you need to know about Gunjack which is CCP’s first foray into the mobile VR space thanks to the Samsung VR Gear. Gunjack will take place in the EvE universe but I’ve seen nothing mention in the press release saying it will be directly connected in a anyway to EvE proper. That part is a damn shame as it would be great to kick some ass and help your corp in EvE while out and about.
However these are the realities we live in, CCP did nail some sweet visuals and if the trailer is real in-game footage running on a phone they are some very impressive graphics which you can thank Unreal Engine 4 for also. That’s not to say you can’t play Gunjack at home on an Oculus Rift but to me this seems like a game best played in spurts.
Oddly, well not really this is the internet age, I’ve already seen a lot of hostility toward the power ups floating toward your face like that breaks some kind of holy sacrament to the EvE universe. To that I say, deal with it. I look at this game like everything in the mobile space and think of it as an offshoot, a one off, a small fragment of name recognition that can bring in casual players, maybe convert some of them and who knows maybe one player will rise up from the Gunjack ranks and become some master EvE strategist who might not have given it a second thought were it not for this game. Not all mobile games are trash, Gunjack might be a hell of a lot of fun, gamers are just going to have to give it a chance to find out, me included. Now we just have one other question for CCP, where the hell is EvE: Valkyrie?
