Futuristic racing extravaganza Distance has zoomed into private beta for Kickstarter backers. To celebrate the team over at Refract has put on some beta footage on Youtube and it looks as fast and sweet as ever. The graphics in Distance are looking just as sweet as the racing, at one point a car is sliced in half yet causing the car to list for a bit but sheer speed keeps it going!
Everything in Distance looks like it was ripped straight out of Tron or any other neon lit dystopian future where all there is to life is racing. The Beta footage has a few other surprises besides just the graphics, a level editor and split screen. The level editor footage looks easy enough for anyone to use so expect to see a flood of awesome community tracks via Steam Workshop. Finally while usually not a big deal on consoles it’s nice to see Distance embrace split screen on PC.

PRESS RELEASE
Kickstarter-Funded Atmospheric Racer “Distance” Enters Private Beta, New Gameplay Trailer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 21, 2014 – After over two years of development, Refract has launched their experimental survival racer Distance into a private beta. The beta is available exclusively to those that backed Distance through Kickstarter and on their website, and feedback from players will be used to heavily shape the game as it approaches future releases.
Alongside the private beta, Refract released an intense new gameplay trailerwhich showcases content from Distance’s short story mode, updated multiplayer modes, and level editor: http://youtu.be/6IWDTeuukfc
In short, Distance fuses the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic and mysterious city. It’s a spiritual successor to the multi-award winning student game Nitronic Rush, which has been downloaded an estimated 3 million times since its release in 2011.
Distance was successfully Kickstarted in November 2012 at over $161,000, and since August 2013 the game has been in a backer-exclusive private alpha. Since then Distance has changed dramatically in response to player feedback, and over 65 levels have been created and shared by alpha players through Distance’s Steam Workshop using the game’s built-in level editor.
