So it looks like Atari is dusting off some old IP’s and when you think Asteroids I know you instantly think about an MMO space gold rush, right? Asteroids: Outpost is going to be the new open world survival MMO on the video game block once it releases sometime in the future. That’s a pretty crazy lineage the game is going to have from it’s humble beginnings as a vector based arcade title.
According to Atari in Asteroids: Outpost you’re going to mine asteroids, collect resources, build and defend your base, form alliances and of course shoot down incoming asteroid showers. I swear if you don’t shoot down asteroid showers while viewing a 2D radar screen, I’m going to be pissed. You have to put a throw back to the original arcade in there that’s not just a old arcade machine from back in the day inside some space bar. Atari sent along some concept art which is just like any concept art, cool to look at but we need to see what the actual game looks like. Asteroids: Outpost, it’s coming so remember grab your hard hat.

Set in the distant future, Asteroids: Outpost thrusts players into a harsh deep space environment.While on a massive, unforgiving asteroid, players face the challenges of exploring the asteroid, collecting resources, scavenging for ore, crafting equipment, and expanding their territory as they build highly customized bases – all while forming alliances and fighting off other players in challenging multiplayer gameplay. Recurring showers of smaller asteroids represent a source of wealth and a threat as players shoot down these incoming projectiles to defend their claims and harvest their components.
