While Mortal Kombat X seems to be enjoying a decent reception on consoles it is not the same over on PC. There have been numerous problems since launch with the game such as not being playable on day 1, even after being able to preload prior to launch, gamers having to delete and redownload the game and features like Faction mode bugging out working then not working or viceversa both pre or post patch. Now comes a 15GB patch that wiped saves along with a second 15GB rollback which is in addition to a 15GB patch that was released on 4/18/2015. I hope no one on limited bandwidth plans is a Mortal Kombat X fan, holy shit, that’s a lot of data. Unfortunately the Steam announcements do not list actual patch sizes so I can only go by what the community is saying but even if the patches are half of what PC gamers are reporting that is still way too much data to just be sucking up for a patch.
The biggest rub of all is that the latest patch/rollback fiasco was because it wiped out everyone’s save progress. Which means there’s also going to be the corrected patch that will probably end up being another 15GB patch but even after all that the gamers who lost their save games will not get them back. Thankfully we have the internet and gamers love a challenge so DKoala over on Reddit might have a possible fix to restore some of your progress. It requires you to have previous versions enabled on your Windows 7/8 machine and nothing is for certain but you can try the steps outlined here and cross your fingers to get some of your hard earned progress back. When Mortal Kombat X was announced I was pretty hyped by what I saw but I stayed away from it because I’ve was hoping they would announce Freddy Krueger so I can finally have the dream match of the century. In doing that it looks like I inadvertently lucked out on a crazy train wreck where you think “it can’t get any worse” and then somehow it does! I don’t know what NetherRealm Studios can do to repair their reputation on PC but I can tell you it’s getting real close to the bottom that’s for sure.
